Hello, my name is Aruni Pathagamage! I have been teaching Montessori for the past 20 years because I am truly passionate about helping little ones develop the proper tools so they can excel physically, emotionally, socially and academically. The first five years of a child’s life are critical and their most transformative, so correct guidance during this time is essential for creative and intellectual success later on in life.

In 2003, I moved to Illinois along with my husband and my son so that my husband could complete his master degree. In 2005 we moved to Orange County and we have lived here ever since. After retiring from Montessori teaching in 2018, I wanted to start a daycare that combined the nurturing, loving and kind environment we foster at home with Montessori methodologies to create an environment where children can foster personal growth and holistic wellness.

For two years I ran my Montessori from my home in Fountain Valley. I was limited to a small daycare with six kids. We wanted to welcome more families, so in August of 2020, my family moved to a new home in Irvine. The new home can accommodate a large daycare and has a larger classroom and infant area along with a larger outdoor play area.

My Experience

In 2000, I obtained my Diploma in Montessori Method of Education from the Marian Training Center in Sri Lanka. I worked in Sri Lankan Montessori schools for three years before moving to the US. The majority of my Montessori teaching experience comes from the 13 years I taught at the International Christian Montessori Academy. Between 2005 and 2018, I taught at both their Newport Beach and City of Orange campuses.

With so much experience working as a lead teacher, in 2018 I felt the time was right to retire and start my own home Montessori. While I enjoyed working in a school, the home environment will allow me to work more individually and personally with the children. I decided on the name Tiny Ones Montessori because it was the first school I worked at in Sri Lanka, and it is the Montessori my son attended.

My family consists of myself, my husband, Sagara and my son, Pawan. My husband is a former air force officer and is currently working as an administrator in the private sector. My son is a recent UCLA graduate working towards attending medical school. We are all unique in our own way and have our own passion but we share a love of knowledge and learning. We foster a close and loving home environment, that is smoke and alcohol free. We kindly invite you to join the Tiny Ones family.
